Luna listened to everything Lucan said, fascinated with the things this man and others like him could do and all without any magic to help them do it. As a cat, she could wander around without being noticed but that was only because she was small and generally thought of as just an animal. If she were human she knew very well that she’d never be able to pull off half the stuff that Lucan was describing.
“I had no idea ..” she murmured finally. “It’s fascinating really, I didn’t have the slightest clue how much went in to making certain where ever Usagi was going was safe or even how easily someone could follow someone without them being aware.”

Luna nodded and murmured, “It is a very different world from anything that I’ve ever dealt with, even back on the moon during the Silver Millennium I don’t think I was aware of anything like the world you inhabit on a daily basis.” Of course Luna didn’t necessarily remember everything about the Silver Millennium and she couldn’t be certain that there were people like Lucan there, but if there were she doubted she would have known much about it then either.
“I’m not sure I could live the life you lead Lucan,” she murmured. “I fear I’d start seeing danger everywhere I went even when it wasn’t really there. However, I’m very glad to know that you and everyone that works for you do protect Usagi so carefully.”

“If all goes as planned though you may one day get to inhabit a world something like the Silver Millennium was, where as I really just don’t think I could handle your world very well. I prefer being a guardian and advisor.”
She nodded. “I guess it helps a bit if you grow up knowing it.” She paused hesitantly before asking, “Did you want something different though, some other kind of life?”
Luna shook her head slowly, certain that she could never be able to do that. It scared her whenever she listened to some of the things Lucan warned about, to know every thing that he did would probably terrify her.
She returned the smile directed at her and murmured, “It’s the truth.”

Luna nodded in agreement. She would like to see the world change for the better as well. Things were so different here on Earth then she could remember back in the Silver Millennium. There were thieves, murders, terrorists, gangs, and all other kinds of evil people in the world including the ones that could use a spoken word just as easily to harm someone as they could a weapon. Then there was the hunger, disease, the homeless, and the forgotten. She would like to see all of that change, but the more she learned about the world in general she had to wonder if it would ever go away. Sure Usagi could and would probably cure the hunger and the disease, there wouldn’t be anyone left out in the cold anymore; but would it cure the rest of the problems? There was always going to be someone unhappy about something and they would find ways to strike and try to turn things into their favor. In fact, Luna had to wonder if she was only remembering the good sides of her long forgotten home, surely there had been the odd person that hadn’t been happy there. Unless everyone was exactly the same then there was going to be someone unhappy with something and considering everyone in the Silver Millennium had distinct individual personalities she had to figure that there had been problems then as well, which meant that they wouldn’t be solved this time around. She nodded sadly and murmured, “Some things will be solved I think, but I have to wonder if maybe you are right. There isn’t ever going to be a time where every single person is happy with how things are going and they are going to want to fight to change it.”
She nodded in understanding. “I guess there are good things and bad things to every situation,” Luna murmured quietly. “It must have been lonely growing up, but you had experiences that no other child could probably even dream of.”
Luna remained quiet as Lucan spoke, sensing that this was something important to him. She frowned a little in concern when he mentioned that something had happened, something that he had done to put an end to his career as an SAS officer. She crept just a little closer, instinctively offering comfort as she realized that whatever it was that had happened really defined the way Lucan’s life had turned out, defined the man that stood before her. Although she wasn’t certain he actually wanted to talk about the incident Luna asked softly, “What was it?” Not out of curiosity, but because sometimes it made people feel better to talk about things that bothered them. She would understand however if he chose not to reveal whatever the incident was.
She didn’t really know what to say. There wasn’t anything that would make Lucan feel better about his actions. His actions would always affect him in some way, especially since consequences and sacrifices had to be made only to have nothing change. In the end, not know what to say she only nodded in understanding. Sometimes just knowing that someone understood how you felt helped even more then being told some useless words in an attempt to make you feel better.
Luna glanced up at him curiously for a moment before saying, “I can understand that. Sometimes the job you do just feels like the thing you were meant to do. Almost as if everything you’ve experienced through your life was just molding you so that you would be able to be here now doing what you do.”

“I wouldn’t want to deprive people from being able to have their own perspectives on things Lucan. People have a right to speak out when they feel like something is changed. I agree that the government should preserve human rights and that people should be able to do whatever they feel they need to with their rights. Change is good in some cases and if no one bothered to change things they felt were bad then nothing would ever grow.”
Luna watched Lucan pull up a chair and settled herself into a more comfortable position. She nodded briefly, feeling just a bit honored that he felt comfortable sharing a story that obviously bothered him with her. Though she wondered if perhaps it was because he felt he should rather then he felt comfortable doing so, she hoped not. She would far rather him want to share with her because he wanted to and not because he felt he had to.
She nodded when he said that he had told her that he did a few tours in Bosnia. As for how much she knew about the Third Balkan War and the dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, well it was probably less then she should know but at least she did know what he was talking about. “I’m afraid that I don’t know much beyond the fact that it all took place ...” she admitted reluctantly.

“Of course you aren’t Lucan, I never thought that you were. Don’t worry so much.”
She listened quietly and nodded occasionally, listening and learning as Lucan spoke. A lot of what Lucan was saying Luna had never heard before. She hadn’t been awake during those times and when she had been awakened she certainly hadn’t bothered to research Earth’s history. She had only been concerned with finding Sailor Moon and the Senshi so that they could find and protect the princess and locate the ginzuishou. A mistake on her part perhaps, but one that she could luckily rectify. She had the time now so perhaps she should read up more on Earth’s history.
When Lucan began discussing more recent events, Luna started recognizing them. At least to the extent of having read about them in the papers and seeing them in the news while they had been happening. She didn’t know as much as someone that had been involved in them obviously, but she at least knew what Lucan was referring to. She nodded slowly, shifting a little uncomfortably at the ironic smile. Luna didn’t interrupt, simply remained quiet waiting for Lucan to go on with his explanation.

Luna grinned at him, happy that he did feel comfortable enough to discuss some things with her. She had no doubt that there were some things he’d still prefer not to discuss and perhaps that was a good idea. “Well I’m glad then. I really wouldn’t want you to feel that you couldn’t say anything you felt you needed to, even if you thought it might upset someone.”
She continued to listen quietly. Luna heard the bitterness in Lucan’s voice and began tensing a little, expecting that she wasn’t going to like whatever it was she was going to hear. War was horrible, she knew that from her own experiences in the long ago Silver Millennium.
However, the more Lucan spoke the more a growing sense of horror caused her to swallow uneasily. Her claws once again scrapped the floor as she stiffened in dismay. The thought of all of those thousands of people, civilians and innocents that should have been protected as they believed they were going to be, thousands of people senselessly killed.
Her ears drooped a little as she continued to stare at Lucan in horror. “But ... but why? Why would they ... how could they do something like that? All those innocent people ... it’s horrible.”

Luna nodded and repeated, “Even if it upset someone. I value your opinion and I’d like to hear whatever it is whenever, even if it’s something that I wouldn’t want to hear and I’m certain that Usagi would feel the same way.”
She sighed softly as she listened to Lucan. Somehow she thought that if she read every one of those books that Lucan spoke of she still wouldn’t understand. She knew all about evil, but more the kind that involved youma and other such creatures of the dark or even men being brainwashed or deceived. In a way she supposed she could understand the history, ethnicity, religion, fear, and propaganda or at least how people could fall prey to those reasons. After all, differences between the people of the moon and earth had driven them all to war ... or rather that had been how the dark powers had wound it’s way into the hearts of men.
Luna was just about to respond when Lucan’s phone beeped at him. Her tail twitched in irritation when it went off a second time followed by his radio and several phones around Usagi’s chambers. By this time she was beginning to get a little concerned, all of Usagi’s phones going off like that generally meant that something was wrong. She nodded briefly when he gave an apologetic wave of his hand before speaking on the phone.
He finally turned back and explained the problem, but before she could respond his phone went off again. Luna couldn’t help snickering just a little when Lucan explained that the ‘Jailhouse Rock’ ringtone indicated that it was Mamoru on the phone. Even though she was worried about Usagi, she couldn’t help being amused over the ringtone that Lucan had chosen for Mamoru, although she figured that Mamoru himself wouldn’t particularly be pleased.

Mamoru breathed a sigh of relief when Lucan responded and gave Usagi a nod so that he would know that the phone had been picked up.
“Yeah, Usagi and I are stuck in an elevator without any power. She’s worried about what’s going on. You’ll have to speak fast though, the charge on this phone isn’t going to last long Lucan.”
He didn’t bother mentioning the fact that Phillips wasn’t in the elevator with them simply because there wasn’t much time. Lucan was smart enough to figure out that if Phillips was in the elevator then all his equipment would be here as well and Mamoru wouldn’t have to be calling him on a phone that was about to die out.

“We are fine for the moment, neither of us are hurt at any rate. The elevator seems sturdy enough, nothing wrong with the safety devices are working just fine think. We can wait for awhile, it’ll just be in the dark. Dark never hurt anyone though, so don’t worry about us.”
There was silence while he relayed the information Lucan had just given him to Usagi so that she would know what was going on. After a moment he asked, “Is there anything you need from Usagi?”
While he waited for Lucan to respond, Mamoru glanced over at Usagi to see if there was anything she wanted to say.

Usagi didn't see Mamoru's nod in the dim light, but it was obvious that Lucan had picked up when he started talking. She tried to lean in close to hear what was being said, but the service in the elevator wasn't good enough for the transmission to be clear enough that Usagi could understand what was begin said, even being so close. She'd have to ask Mamoru after he hung up. Though just a moment later he was telling her what was going on. Usagi frowned. That was certainly not natural. It was definitely something she had to deal with; if things couldn't operate-- well the economic costs alone would be astronomical. Then there were emergency services... But, she couldn't do anything about it right now. She needed to get out of this elevator in order to respond!
When Mamoru asked if there's anything she needed, Usagi glommed onto the phone with both hands to speak into it. Usagi knew she could always say things to Lucan that she wouldn't be able to get away with when it came to the senshi, or even Mamoru for that matter, if tonight was any indication.
"Lucan!" Usagi wailed. "Get me out of here!! It's dark and scary and I don't like it and I wanna go hoooommmee! Did I mention it's dark and there's no light? And um... don't fire Phillips! It's my fault. And GET ME OUT! K, thanks, bye." She relinquished her hold on the phone.

Mamoru relaxed the moment Lucan assured him that they were perfectly safe, making him realize that he had been more worried about their safety then he had thought. “Thank you, I’m glad to know that actually.”
When Lucan asked to speak with Usagi, Mamoru certainly had no trouble doing that. He understood that Lucan needed to hear Usagi’s reassurance that she was ok. “Right ...”
He started to hand the phone over to Usagi, but she grabbed on to it with both hands and wailed her requests over the line to Lucan. Mamoru frowned just a little as he listened to her wails. He knew she had been upset, but he hadn’t really realized that she was frightened. When the light went out, which it would any minute now, he would have to think of something to try and get her mind off the dark.
Mamoru took the phone back when she relinquished her hold on it and asked, “Did you get that Lucan? Is there anything else you need, the phone’s about to go out ...”
A few moments later, the phone clicked off as the last of the battery power was used up, plunging them back into the dark.

Luna’s ears flattened against her head the moment she heard Usagi’s wail come across the phone. She wasn’t even holding the phone up to her ear and she could hear it, poor Lucan had been holding the phone. True being a cat she had more sensitive hearing then a man would have, but Luna knew how loud Usagi’s wails could be and she felt sorry for Lucan.
More then that though, the words Usagi was speaking was loud and clear and Luna couldn’t help becoming very worried about her queen. She didn’t know what was wrong, but she knew that Usagi was scared. She rose to her feet, fur bristled worriedly as she waited for Lucan to be able to tell her what was actually going on.
Luna relaxed just a little the moment that Lucan assured her that both Usagi and Mamoru were fine. She trusted Lucan’s judgement and if he said they were fine then they were fine. That didn’t mean however that she wouldn’t worry. Her claws scraping nervously against the floor, Luna asked the first question that came to mind over the hundreds that began whirling through her head.
“Why did Mamoru have to call you Lucan? Shouldn’t there be an agent handling everything right there next to Usagi, an agent with a radio that we could use to contact her ...”
Her next question was simply, “Do I need to bother the senshi? If they are needed, they could teleport in there and get her out in a hurry ...”

Luna twitched her tail irritably and muttered, “If Usagi said it was her fault, then I’m sure she had at least something to do with why the agent wasn’t there. Still he can’t keep her safe if the guy doesn’t stay with her even when she begs for something.”
It would be fairly easy to wake up the senshi and send them after Usagi, though Luna wasn’t certain if they’d be able to accomplish something like that. Luna knew that if Usagi needed or wanted the senshi she would be able to call them herself. Still the senshi did have a right to know that Usagi was once again in trouble, even if it wasn’t anything major at the moment. On the other hand, Lucan said they were safe enough for now and if there wasn’t a need to get the senshi out of bed then Luna didn’t want to. They could always be informed a little later in the morning when they woke up.
After a moment she murmured, “If you are certain that the elevator isn’t going to fall or anything and that Usagi is indeed safe for the moment then I think I’ll hold off on waking them just yet. It’s not like they are far away. If we need them, it’ll be simple to get them. Usagi knows how to get in contact with them, if she wanted them she would have either asked for them or called them herself. She probably has her reasons ...”

Luna nodded when Lucan said that they would have answers in just a moment. She knew he would and so she didn’t worry about it anymore.
She began relaxing as she listened to Lucan explain the safety features of elevators and the fact that he had run tests on all of their systems. She vaguely wondered when Lucan found time to do all of the things he needed to do, but she didn’t ask. There were more serious things going on right now, perhaps she would ask him later.
Luna leaped to a nearby chair and said, “I’d definitely be interested in knowing why he wasn’t there. As for going with you ...” She ducked her head just a little and murmured, “If you are sure I wouldn’t be in the way I would really like to go with you. I would like to see for myself that Usagi is ok, that is whenever you manage to rescue her.”
