The Soldier of the Deep Waters is an elegant artist with a dramatic personality that is as deep and multi-faceted as the oceans from which she draws her power. On the surface, Michiru is quiet and composed, possessing an air of maturity and sophistication. Refinement and elegance are definitely some of this woman's watchwords, but like the ocean her mood can change in an instant. She can be as cold and remote as the arctic waters or as warm and gentle as the Caribbean Sea. Her anger is sudden and sharp as a squall, and she does not suffer fools lightly.
It has been commented that Michiru is "the perfect example of a princess." Her vanity approves of this, as she does enjoy her natural beauty and grace, but the only reaction such a statement would pull is a wry half-smile and a raised eyebrow. She knows very well how not perfect she is and so finds such comments amusing (Michiru has a rather good sense of humor about herself and her life), even if she does possess many of the attributes one would look for in royalty.

She does not particularly relish the ideas of fighting and killing, but recognizes that they are at times necessary actions. Her very black and white view on the subject lends her an emotional distance that allows for some very ruthless actions. There is not a force in the universe that can keep her from fulfilling her duty, not even the potential of losing her life. She would willingly lay it down to see her Queen and her love safe and whole.

Kaioh Michiru was born the only child of wealthy parents who were not around a great deal. She grew up in elegant surroundings and was tended to by all manner of nannies and servants. She was neither a difficult nor a bad child, but she was a difficult child to deal with.
Even from a young age Michiru knew her own mind well and expressed herself unapologetically, which could be very off putting at times. The child was wise and talented beyond her years, an artistic prodigy, who could carry on full conversations with grown adults by the age of six. Incredibly self-determined, and self-possessed, Michiru made her parents proud with her skills, but they were still distant and not terribly affectionate. So the little girl threw herself into her music and art and learned how to be the "perfect daughter" on the surface. This however did nothing to relieve the loneliness that was growing deep inside her as she was unfortunately intelligent enough to realize that it wasn't their daughter that her parents were proud of. It was how well Michiru's talents reflected back on them that made them smile and gush.
She attended exclusive, prestigious academies for her schooling where she had very little in common with her peers. Her gift of precognition granted her far more knowledge than the average teenager, which sometimes lent her an eerie air. She was also alienated for her sheer level of talent, teenage insecurity and the resulting jealousy are incredible things, as she had been giving concerts and other public performances since the age of ten.
However, the thing that set her apart the most was the simple fact that she had absolutely no interest in boys. They were all so rowdy, unkempt, and obnoxious that she could not picture herself sharing anything at all with any of them. Michiru began to dread, just a little, that she might not find anyone to ever share her life with.
Then came high school and her life changed forever. She learned during this time that she was Sailor Neptune, a princess of that far flung planet, and a guardian and member of the royal court of the Moon Princess. Who could she ever tell this to and still be regarded as sane? The icing on the cake however was the discovery of one Ten'ou Haruka.
Fiercely independent, brutally honest, brave, dignified, and utterly lovely, Michiru had her first crush. So she began to observe Haruka in action at her races, then spending the days dreaming about driving with her in her fast car along the coast, and nursing the faint hope that the wild racer girl just might be the partner that she had been looking for.
This turned out to be true in more ways than one for Haruka was also Sailor Uranus, along with being receptive to Michiru's advances. They have been together ever since through battle, pain, death, and rebirth, as well as all the little challenges of everyday life. Even if their relationship was frowned upon by a vast majority of people, Michiru would rather die that be without the only person who has unquestioningly accepted and loved her.
They are now living together in their apartments within the Crystal Palace to better maintain their vigilance over the life of the Queen. In outside life, Michiru has continued to paint and achieved her dream of becoming a professional violinist. Her first album is currently in the works.

Michiru herself possesses precognitive abilities and is very sensitive to energy fields. She can perceive presences with great accuracy, and with the help of the Deep Aqua Mirror which is one of the three Sacred Talismans, can cut through illusions. It also aids her in clarifying the revelations she receives, as receiving visions of the future is not always the most coherent business.
In her Senshi form, Michiru has three basic attacks that she uses which channel the forces of the planet Neptune and the gravity of the deep waters. These powers have grown deeper and more powerful as she has connected more and more with her home planet, gaining new dimensions and force.
Deep Submerge - this calls on the force of the ocean, and rather than using physical ocean water it is more the cold crushing pressure of the deep.
Submarine Reflection - this is a blast of clarifying and disillusioning light shot directly from the surface of the Deep Aqua Mirror.
Submarine Violon Tide - this attack uses Michiru's violin itself, a five million dollar Stradivarius called the Marine Cathedral after the "temple of the sea." This attack creates a tidal wave of energy that would wash over and crush her enemies.
Past Life: Michiru is fully connected with Neptune and remembers everything about her past life.
