Once again, it was glorious weather January, if rather cold. Usagi had found her mind wandering the closer it came to lunch. She had been in a meeting most of the morning, and had tried not to get caught staring out at the window as the sun glinted brightly off of the spires of the Crystal Palace, but her sighs and wistful glances had not gone unnoticed. It was Hikari who suggested that she take her lunch out into the gardens. Usagi went a step further, suggesting the public gardens. She knew employees of the Palace liked to lunch there, and she just wanted to get out and be around mostly normal people, at least for forty-five minutes.
Requesting that her aides remain behind, for Usagi did not want to take more of a retinue than she had to, she bundled up and took her boxed bento and a thermos of hot tea out into the winter cold. Even in her belted coat, she could tell how chilly it was. There wasn't a cloud in the sky, and her ears and nose quickly turned numb, especially when a breeze lifted. The chill made it knifelike, but she still enjoyed the sensation of being outside.
Security was around, even visible, but not too close to be smothering. Usagi waved at people and even said hi, but most were polite enough to let her eat and not try to monopolize more than a minute or two of her time. Though, Usagi found herself wishing they weren't quite so polite-- she always enjoyed a companion to dine with, and this situation was no different. She found herself slowing down, just to allow more time to pass to see if she couldn't hang out for a few minutes, even with a stranger, before heading back in for what promised to be a very busy afternoon.
