(OOC: I'm writing this in screenplay form-- hopefully it'll make sense. Let me know if it doesn't!)
(Three news anchors, two men and one woman, are sitting behind a desk, a green-screen backdrop of Tokyo behind them)
Daisen Riho: Good morning, Tokyo! It's a beautiful day, and we have lots of news for you this morning.
Araya Yuiho: That's right, Daisen-san. We promised you live coverage of the New Year's festivities at the Crystal Palace, and FNN's very own Hoshi Kae is there now, waiting to update us on the preparations.
(Goes to split screen, Hoshi Kae with a FNN microphone is standing outside in the public gardens near the Palace)
Araya: Good morning, Hoshi-san!
Hoshi: Good morning to you, Araya-san! As you can see behind me, it's a lovely day here outside the Palace. A little chilly, but already people are turning out to watch the preparations.
Daisen: This is pretty mild weather for December, isn't it? Our weatherman was just updating us a few minutes ago.
Hoshi: It's certainly the perfect weather for this occasion, Daisen-san.
Ishikawa Ukon: Can you tell us about some of what is happening behind you, Hoshi-san?
(Hoshi turns, beginning to walk, the camera following her)
Hoshi: As you can see, security has already cordoned off the main street here through the gardens leading up to the Palace. Many of the VIPs have already arrived, but others are expected today. Some of the crowds you see beyond the barricades there are waiting to catch a glimpse of them.
Ishikawa: Have some people camped there overnight, in order to get a better view?
Hoshi: No, security here has been quite adamant against that, but some have arrived here at three, four in the morning, Ishikawa-san, and are planning to stay past the fireworks, well into the night.
Daisen: This certainly has been an very anticipated event. (he chuckles)
Hoshi: Absolutely, Daisen-san! There is a real atmosphere of excitement and anticipation here.
Araya: That's good to hear, because, as you know, the world recently received some dismaying news from the Palace. The world may be ringing in a new year in style, but 2012 marked a ten year relationship for Neo Queen Serenity, and that's recently come to an end.
Daisen: Tonight's events will be Her Majesty's first major public event since the split.
Hoshi: The Queen's aides have been keeping the media at quite a distance these past few days, so we haven't really been able to get a read on the Queen's demeanor right now, but you see, that's just a part of the big story outside the Palace this morning, Daisen-san.
Daisen: What's that, Hoshi-san? (he pretends to look surprised)
Hoshi: Well, FNN has been first to cover the global reactions to the broken engagement--
Araya: --FNN recently closed the exclusive, online poll, inquiring as to whether you, the viewer, approved of Queen Serenity breaking off the engagement--
Hoshi: --the news certainly made shock waves worldwide, and it seems the ripples have come back to the Crystal Palace in a big way, Araya-san.
Ishikawa: Please, Hoshi-san, tell us more.
(Hoshi begins to walk again, leading the camera over to a huge cluster of men, and the occasional woman amongst there. The group is rowdy, and full of people from all nationalities, in all manner of national and modern dress, many of them with animals and props. These men begin to cheer and yell, running up behind her and waving at the camera, while others continue to set up their props. It seems like an early Valentine's day, as there are flowers and boxes of chocolate as well as stuffed animals littering the lawn)
Hoshi: (raising her voice, talking above the shouting) What you see here, Ishikawa-san, is a mass exodus of suitors to the Crystal Palace public grounds. Since the news came out, thousands of men, and even a few women around the world, have migrated here to try to court the Queen. This--
Daisen: That's a lot of men. How many are there?
Araya: Oh my.
Ishikawa: Oh, I see--
Hoshi: --this, this... Is really quite an unprecedented event. I don't know if you can see some of the signs...? (The camera pans over to massive signs, erected on wooden stilts that read: 'Marry Me!' in different languages.)
Daisen: How-- how many are there, Hoshi-san?
Hoshi: Conservative estimates put the crowd here at three thousand, Daisen-san, and as the day goes on it's only expected to increase. And it's not just for the Queen, too, many have decided that this is the perfect time to propose to her guard, the Sailor Senshi.
Ishikawa: How is the Palace reacting to this news?
(The shot of the anchors in the studios expands, filling the screen)
Araya: FNN has received notice from the Crystal Palace that the crowd outside is not the only suitors that have materialized this morning.
Ishikawa: Oh?
Araya: Many former crowned heads of state and presidents have also contacted the Palace to ask for the Queen's hand in marriage. (She looks away from the teleprompter and down at a piece of paper on the desk, reading from it) Apparently, this comes directly from her Majesty's Chief of Staff... 'As of now, the Palace has received over 500 'VIP proposals.'' It says here, that-- That 284 have been rejected outright, and that the rest have yet to be reviewed, or are 'under consideration.' (She looks up again)
Daisen: So, theoretically, the Queen could have a new fiancé at any moment?
Araya: Yes, Daisen-san, in theory.
Ishikawa: I think that's unlikely, it would certainly be a blow to her public image to accept so quickly. If she couldn't work things out with Chiba Mamoru, with whom she was involved with for a decade, then getting betrothed so soon would surely arose some concern, Daisen-san.
Daisen: Perhaps the Queen will accept one proposal and withhold on informing the public until the potential candidate has been fully vetted and suitable waiting period has elapsed.
Araya: I'm sure that Palace aides have already begun the vetting process on the most desirable proposals. Security will probably be ordering full background checks as well. Don't forget, some of these candidates will be pursuing the sailor senshi, as well.
Ishikawa: I imagine that the sailor senshi will be part of the vetting team for these candidates. The Queen obviously relies on their opinion and judgment.
Araya: And the Queen's feline advisor, Luna, will most likely have a hand in the proceedings.
Daisen: Undoubtedly. Ishigawa-san, you are also our political commentator, what kind of future husband do you think Neo Queen Serenity will be looking for?
Ishigawa: The Queen will be looking for a fresh face, someone young to help shake up the political scene like she has since her coronation. It's been a real 'changing of the guard' this past year, figuratively as well as literally.
Araya: Well said, Ishigawa-san. You know, this new generation is a bit more open than the last, and one of the criticisms that has been leveled against Chiba Mamoru in the past is that there doesn't seem to be a real public chemistry between the two.
Ishigawa: That's right, Araya-san. The Queen will probably want someone much more demonstrative than Chiba was in their public appearances. You know, this is a new era, a contemporary fairy-tale. People have expectations. They want to see the Queen happy, see her with someone that will elevate the royal office.
Daisen: Image is absolutely critical here.
Ishigawa: Precisely, Daisen-san. Also, it's a real opportunity right now for the Queen to find someone who's been on the political scene before, who understands the pressures and the duties of this type of office, and someone that can handle her being in the public limelight without getting jealous.
Araya: However, this up and coming generation is less concerned about class structure than the last. The Queen has consistently defied societal rank and caste, on a global level. Many of her high-level ministers and local governors have been those from lower classes. She might not want someone who could be seen as part of the old status quo.
Ishigawa: That's an astute observation as well, Araya-san. Which is why, after this commercial break, we will have Hoshi-san interview some of the suitors on the street there outside of the Palace. More live coverage, after this break. Stay with us! We'll be right back!
