Location: The Drow City of Sshamath
Too Long; Didn't Read Version: Basically, Drow city that is run by magic instead of religion. Magic is fun! Drow are sexy and violent. Another Drow city has attacked Sshamath, which is ruled by a bunch of Wizards. Attack unleashed a plague on the city. Political challenges, war, etc. Fun.
The city of Sshamath is a wondrous, magical city living beneath the earth in the Underdark. It is residence for the Drow, a ruthless dark elf race that is obsessed with chaos, authority, sex, and magic. They are inherently resistant to magic and have a deep, complex psychology to their cities. Though they are not good, they are also not evil - they have a complex range of all emotions.
The Drow of Sshamath are no longer run by the Goddess Lolth, who causes chaos amongst the other Drow. There are no priestesses of great stature in Sshamath, and it not a female driven society. Instead, it is an equal if not slightly male favored society.
Instead of noble houses, there is a Conclave headed by the Masters of the various schools of magic. These schools include Evocation, Abjuration, Conjuration, Divination, Transmutation, Necromancy, Enchantment, and Illusion. There is one more school, Elemental, but is minor and lacks political power.
As of a current, there is a great divide amongst the Conclave and the people of Sshamath. Athtar, an up and coming power player, also leader of the Transmutation school, wishes to open up Sshamath to other races and societies. He seeks domination of cultures, and wishes to use their resources. His followers are united under the name The Nightsworn. The schools of Conjuration, Divination, and Enchantment follow his will.
In opposition is Ballara Auvry, leader of the school of Necromancy. She leads the Abysswalkers, and greatly opposes Athtar’s view point. Greatly resenting all other races, Ballara wishes to have nothing to do with them, believing that mixing with other races even for power is beneath the drow. She doesn’t seek to remove Athtar from power unless necessary, just contain it. The schools of Abjuration, Illusion, and Evocation had allied themselves with the Abysswalkers.
Recently, there has been an attack on the city of Sshamath. A great center for magic, one which has thrown out the priestesses and taunted the Goddess Lolth, is a blemish in Lolth's Underdark dwellings. As such, one of the more prominent Drow cities, that revels in their worship of Lolth, has launched an attack against Sshamath. They have unleashed a plague upon the city, forcing the Conclave to spring into action to protect Sshamath.
