Mamoru nodded and murmured, “I know that she wouldn’t want me to give them up.” He was well aware that Usagi would even hate the fact that he had even thought about giving up everything he had worked for. On the other hand though, he knew that things were going to change whether they liked it or not. Although he hadn’t ever actually thought about how much he’d have to give up, he had been prepared for that for a long time now.
He smiled politely at Ami’s suggestion that it would at the very least help him as king. “You needn’t worry about me Ami. I’ll be happy no matter what happens. I’ve got what I most want, Usagi means more to me then my career ever will.”

Ami smiled warmly, careful to keep the touch of bitterness she felt out of the smile. Fortunately, being at peace surrounded by water made it relatively easy to do so, as did the fact that she was genuinely happy for Usagi and Mamoru. "Usagi's lucky, but I'm sure she knows just how fortunate she is."

Once again Mamoru smiled politely at his companion. However, as far as he was concerned it was really him that was the lucky one. He still believed that Usagi deserved so much more then he could ever hope to give, therefore he viewed himself as the fortunate one to have her in his life. Mamoru didn’t put any of this into words though, these were some of his deeper feelings and he simply didn’t feel comfortable enough sharing them with just anyone.
At any rate, he knew he had probably been hiding away for long enough. There was probably a million and one things that he needed to be doing at that moment. As relaxing as it might be, he couldn’t stay here for much longer. He swam one more lap in the pool before saying, “As interesting as our conversation has been Ami, I’m afraid that I probably should be getting back to my former duties. I’ve neglected them long enough ...”

Ami nodded, understanding. "I'm glad you were able to take a break. I can imagine that it's rather stressful being the future king. And I appreciate being able to talk to someone who understands what my residency is like." She didn't mind talking to the girls, and they were great shoulders when she'd lost one too many children, but Mamoru had actually been there and could understand.
"It'll calm down soon enough." She smiled warmly. She was giong to swim a bit by herself before leaving, and then she figured she should find Usagi since she didn't get to see the new Queen enough.

Mamoru returned Ami’s smile and murmured, “I know it will.” He climbed out of the pool and pulled on his shirt and started to head for the door. Before leaving, he glanced back and called, “Thank you for the talk Ami and have fun with your swim...”
However, as he opened the door he almost knocked over a servant that had been about to come in. Mamoru reached out and steadied the smaller girl before she actually did fall and murmured a polite apology.
The servant girl blushed brightly and ducked her head shyly and hastened to assure him that it had been her fault in the first place. Gaining a bit of confidence the servant girl quickly informed him that Pluto had arrived and was waiting on them.
Mamoru simply stared at the servant girl, wondering why on earth Pluto was waiting on him. After a moment though Mamoru remembered his appointment with Pluto and it irritated him somewhat to realize he had completely forgotten it. Sighing irritably, Mamoru thanked the girl before heading off to change clothes. After all it really wouldn’t do to go meet Pluto in the clothes he had just been swimming in.
Mamoru really never gave the servant girl another thought after dismissing her. However, all the while her future king had been standing there at the door to the pool, the servant girl had gotten a good look inside. It hadn’t really taken her very long to realize that the only other occupant was the lady Mercury. It also didn’t take her very long to come up with a reason why they might have been in there alone. Since she had nothing better to do, the girl quickly scurried off to tell some of her friends what she believed she had just witnessed.
