Ami chuckled a bit at the comment about Makoto holding down two jobs, but did not comment further on it. Having shifted all her work to the hospital, she had to admit that she was just as impressed by Makoto's balancing act.
She grinned at his first answer. "How much space does one person need, really?" Of course she had grown up here, so that the small apartments seemed to be perfectly normal to her, though the apartment she'd shared with her mother had been relatively large.
"I'm glad that you'll have time to enjoy Tokyo, then." She picked one final tidbit for her plate - having a decent amount, not being particularly worried about her figure. She blushed slightly as his eyes met hers, "It really is a beautiful place, perhaps a bit crowded with the new government, but I hope you are able to appreciate the beauty even for all that."

"Hm.. well. If you ever saw my old home, you'd probably understand." He smiled, "Growing up in the States has spoiled me to elbow room."
Zacharie nodded, though, and waited on her to finish before leading them towards a relatively secluded table. Though he saw a few people glancing towards Ami and himself, both, he discouraged any advances by refusing to meet eyes. No, they were going to remain alone so long as he could help that.
After setting his plate and glass down on the table, Zacharie paused to pull a chair out for her and offer it. "Thus far it's proven to be both--crowded but beautiful. Different doesn't necessarily mean bad, of course. In fact... it's shaping up to be quite enjoyable." In more ways than one, he added mentally.

Ami blushed slightly, trying to ignore the glances. She had found that the best way to deal with her new found celebrity status was to simply try to pretend that nothing was different. There were times, like this afternoon, when the media made it impossible for her to do so, but for the most part she was able to a limited degree.
She smiled as he pulled a chair out for her, and set her own plate and glass down before taking it. "I'm glad." She took a sip of her drink, but waited for him to sit down before she began eating.
Ami managed not to sigh as she looked at the dance floor, trying not to think about Zoisite. There was something about this charming young man that made her want to get to know him, separate from any past either of them carried. Smiling she turned back to him.
"I...uh... I have to make a confession." She blushed and looked down for a moment. "I... um... I've seen Heart Roots." Anyone who knew Ami would know that the confession was more about her admitting to watching a romance movie rather than having seen him in a movie. "So... I... kind of know who you are... well, that's not true... I mean, I know your work." She was not going to claim to be a fan, as that would just sound trite and not express any of how she really felt.

Zacharie sat down a moment later and made no bones about pulling his plate to him and lifting his fork. It smelled wonderful, and if it was Makoto's doing then it was certain to be even better. He wasn't let down. The man paused, though, when Ami began to hesitate and lifted his eyes to her. For a moment he thought it was going to be something... he didn't really know what, but something bad. A cloud of apprehension settled over his shoulders.
Then the words "Heart Roots" slipped out and before he could stop himself he laughed. Shaking his head with relief, the man just sipped some of his wine as the chuckles cleared. "I'm surprised, honestly. I didn't think many people here had. Was rather counting on it a bit... but no, I'm glad."
Zoisite smiled at her, "After all. You've seen it, yet will still speak to me. That in itself is a compliment. But, as they would say in the movies, I think that gives you a rather unfair advantage. You know so much about me... but I, nothing of you. Except your name."

Ami chuckled a bit, still blushing, but smiled at him. She was relieved that he did not think her some kind of stalker or silly fan girl. She took a bite of the food and made a mental note to let Makoto know that she had outdone herself for the ball.
"It was a good movie. I just was a bit afraid that I'd come off like... a.... fangirl." She blushed even deeper as she said that.
She took a sip of her chocolate martini, "What is it that you want to know?" For some reason, she was wary of telling him that she was Mercury. It was not something of which she was ashamed, but given the crowd of "suitors" outside of the palace, she was a bit wary. "I suppose, since I know what you do, I should start with that? I'm a doctor, a pediatrician. I'm currently getting the palace hospital ready to open." She blushed slightly, knowing that sounded like she was bragging.

"You? Never," he laughed her fangirl comment off and shook his head. "No, to paraphrase Robert Pattison, the screams of fangirls herald the gates of hell. I certainly couldn't see you anywhere near that place."
Continuing to munch upon his (utterly delightful) dinner, the actor grinned rather than be surprised. "Doctor. Yeah, that does seem to make sense. I can just see you in the uniform... assuming you wear one. That's really great, though... Can I ask what you specialize in?"

Ami giggled softly. "There was a time. I don't think I was ever a screaming fangirl, but I was definitely a fangirl." She was rather amazed that she was telling him that, but she had come to terms with her past. "And I can see that." She grinned, thinking about Usagi and Minako.
"I wear scrubs sometimes, yes." She blinked it bit, wondering that he could imagine her in them. She did not consider them to be particularly flattering. "Pediatrics mainly, though I also have a few adults for whom I'm the primary physician. I'm technically still finishing my Residency."

Zach nodded, "It takes years, doesn't it, of school?" Stupid question and he almost winced.. but no. no wincing, no self-conscience moments. Not yet, anyway. "This probably sounds trite, but you just seemed really smart... plus your grasp of English is really impressive. Learning a foreign language is.... well, difficult." He laughed at himself and shrugged, "So I figured you were probably above average. "

Ami nodded a bit and found herself blushing at the comment that she was "above average." She was a genius, and as a child that had pretty much been her self definition. But there was something about the way that Zach called her smart that was different from what she was used to - he was respectful, but overly awed or wanting to use her intelligence. "Thank you."
"I... I always found school to be easy, always loved learning. There's so much knowledge to be gained, and not just knowledge, but that knowledge can be used to help make people's lives better. The world is complex, and the more we know about it the better we can interact." She chuckled a bit, "But I've also learned that there are things that we can't ever fully understand." Ami had long given up trying to understand how the fire could tell the future to Rei or how Michiru could see things in her mirror.
She blushed slightly, "I'm sorry... I could go on for a while about that... probably bore you." That was not meant as insult, just that she knew that she could get carried away.

"Oh, i don't think you could bore me," he replied lightly and smiled. "After all, you're only talking about the truth. Science is a wonderful thing..." His lips twitched a little at the irony. All the talk of science hadn't helped a wit in the past few years--what with magical queens and strange histories showing up.
"Besides, I'm sure I could learn a lot from you."

She tilted her head slightly, seeing the twitch of his lip. "Note entirely sure you believe that about science?" Even being intimately involved with the magic, she was very much still a believer in the value of science and knowledge.
"I don't know. There's a reason I didn't go into teaching." She smiled a bit, "I'd be glad to teach you anything I can. Um... if you want, I could help you with your Japanese. I mean, you can get around with English, but if you're going to be here for a while..." she shrugged a bit, "I'd be glad to help." She hoped he wasn't just saying that, it might just be an excuse, but she'd be glad to have one.
"But enough about me. You've heard about my passion. What's yours?" She had almost finished her drink, something which surprised her. Since she'd not had much and was eating, but she was distantly aware that she was beginning to get a bit of a "buzz."

"Aw, come now," Zacharie found himself teasing lightly, "I'm certain you'd make a wonderful teacher. In fact, I may just have to take you up on that offer to prove it." He winked, then shrugged, "Oh, I believe firmly enough in science. It's just that these days there seems to be a bit of... proof to the otherwise going about. At least, with the new government and all. That I'm not sure how I feel about."
Zacharie shook his head a little and smiled, "Well, you wouldn't know it from having just seen that movie. I'm a theatre man, by heart, and a pianist before that. Music, in other words."

Ami grimaced but tried to cover it by taking a bite of food when he mentioned not being sure how he felt about the new government. "I think.... the magic... is mostly just something we don't understand yet." Though Ami was not sure that she had had much more understanding of some aspects of it in the Silver Millennium either.
She smiled when he mentioned music and the theater. She felt a blush creep her cheeks, "I'd... I'd love to hear you play. I enjoy music. I dabble a little bit myself, but nothing serious. What kind of music do you prefer? Or do you write your own?"

"I'll say," Zach agreed with a faint laugh and took a sip of his drink. "Broadway, as you can imagine. Showtunes and musicals... and classical, of course, You don't get much better than Beethoven, however trite that might sound. Which instruments, if i might ask?"

"I enjoy Beethoven, and what I've heard of Broadway - I enjoy; it's actually not that different from opera despite that opera tends to be taken more seriously." She smiled to him, finishing her own drink, and distantly thinking that she needed some water to keep her hydrated. She tended to need more water than most people anyway. However, she was terrified that if she left he would not be there when she got back.
"Just one... the harp. I sing some too, but not when or where anyone could ever hear me!" The girls had made her karoke a couple of times, but she tended to try to avoid singing around other people. "It's fun, but my instrument is really much more the harp."
"Do you... play anything other than the piano? Or sing?"
