Khalid chuckled softly, his feet easily moving with the change of the music, though like Minako he was not entirely focused on the music, but on the woman he held in his arms. While he did not dance at functions in his home, he attended enough formal functions in Europe and America to have learned to be quite the dancer.
"In my free time, I enjoy the arts. I myself have no hidden talents, but I quite enjoy discovering others. Independent theater, starving artists, hidden musical geniuses, independent movies, that kind of thing." He grinned warmly down to her, an expression seen by very few people on the usually stoic man, but one that felt right wearing around the woman with whom he was dancing. For some reason, he did not feel the need to hide from her. "I like to make sure that talent is able to survive, that artists can express themselves without worrying about where the next meal will come from or having to put aside their own vision in order to make their patron happy." He shrugged, "It's a hobby, and a small way that I can bring beauty to the world."
"And that is enough about me. Tell me about yourself. Who is the real Aino Minako? The woman beyond the idol?"

"I should have guessed," Minako replied, "Given your interest in Zach and our film in general. I enjoy the arts too, although I think that's rather obvious. Of course, I mean music and film - paintings and such are alright, but they don't hold my attention the way media arts do."
Minako pulled back slightly so she could look up at Khalid's face. "Well, this is the real me. I dreamed of being an idol since I was a small girl, but my senshi duties interfered. I did actually audition once during my first year of high school, and made the cut, but there was too much going on in other areas of my life and I simply couldn't walk away from that no matter what my dreams were. Once the senshi business died down a bit and Earth appeared relatively safe, I took up being an idol again. I like volleyball and having fun and being the center of attention," she flashed him another smile, "what you see here."
And she hoped he liked what he saw. Minako wasn't one to pretend to be something she wasn't. Oh, she'd tried a few times in her past, but no matter how talented she was at acting on the screen or stage, when she stepped back into her own persona, Minako was the only person she could be. Her friends, especially, could see through any act she tried to throw up for them and after realizing she'd never fool them, she stopped trying.

Khalid raised an eyebrow, but did not say anything, nor did his smile drop. He wondered if she was simply underestimating herself. Obviously, if she was willing to put her dreams on hold, there was something more to her than liking to have fun and being the center of attention. Even her discussion of politics earlier suggested at depths, but here she was denying them.
He was curious and a bit disappointed, though he would be careful not to let her realize that. There had to be something to this sunny woman that the world didn't see when she was on stage or in a movie.

Minako noticed his look but ignored it. The deep dark recesses of Minako were much harder to breech, and regardless of who Khalid was in his past life, she certainly wasn't going to hand herself over at a question. While her senshi status, along with the other girls, was generally known to the public, most would never know the details of the experiences they had shared throughout their years of fighting chaos.
The tempo of the next song was slower, and Minako was satisfied to let the conversation die in favor of simply enjoying the moment. She leaned against Khalid, certain that if she closed her eyes she could convince herself she was still in the Silver Millennium. The way she fit into his arms perfectly, the way he moved them both across the floor, even his very demeanor provoked her memory to recall similar moments she'd shared with Kunzite.
And yet, Kunzite had betrayed her. She hoped Khalid never would.

They had slipped into silence, but with the comfortable feeling of her in his arms, he was content to just dance and hold her close as they did so. His eyes narrowed slightly as he looked down at her, studying her, and vowing that he would get to know the fullness of who she was, the Aino Minako that was not known to the world, the woman who had helped saved the world and create the current government. He would get to know her.
And perhaps, he would finally open himself to someone as well.
They were in the middle of a turn when the world shook, and Khalid was not the kind of romantic to believe that this the "world moving" was in his imagination from the power of the attraction he felt to the woman he held. He stopped and held her tightly, making sure that her heels would not cause her to fall. The power flickered out before the generators kicked in and he narrowed his eyes. Even as he held her protectively, his eyes swept the ball room, attempting to assess the situation.

At first, Minako didn't register the shock of quake. And then, when she realized what was happening, she pressed against Khalid. As the lights came back on, she pushed away from him. "I'm sorry, Khalid, but I must find Usagi. I hope you understand."
She paused for a moment, letting her hand linger in his for a second, then let it drop. Before he could answer, she was gone, slipping through the crowd looking for her queen.
