Makoto gratefully accepted the jacket that Usagi had offered and quickly put it on. “Thank you, Usagi-chan.” As she pulled it tighter around her, she noticed the ice patch growing larger by the second, and turned to fully see what was going on. She smiled upon realizing it was Ami creating a sculpture from all the water. Once she’d finished, she was kind enough to pull the water that was currently soaking through her dress and hair and used it in the sculpture as well. “Thanks for the power-dry Ami-chan! And the sculpture is beautiful!”
Rei’s comment didn’t escape her notice, and she chuckled lightly. “You can say that again.”
She stood for a moment, looking back and forth between the two groups. Makoto understood how hard it must be for all of them to have to face each other again. While she managed to keep her calm on the outside, her mind continued to reel over everything that had happened. The urge to take a vacation sounded better and better as the minutes passed.
Makoto cringed as Usagi belted out orders for Lucan and his team to take care of the damage. She really did feel bad for the destruction that had been caused. Perhaps later she’d offer to help with some or all of the replanting. It was the least she could do…after all, she’d insisted upon meeting with Nathaniel tonight. She did feel that she bore at least some of the responsibility over it all.
It seemed everyone was ready to go inside as well, so she turned and followed Usagi back up the muddy path. She lingered for a moment as the others re-entered the palace and looked back at the three men. It had all happened so fast, she just needed to make sure it was real. She offered them a small, but warm smile and slipped through the palace doors.
