“They sure did. The girl at the counter told me it’d be about an hour though.”
She followed Ami over to the waiting area. “Lucky you. But you’d better knock on wood before you find out that you spoke too soon.”
Makoto bent down before one of the cans of paint and pried off the lid. She turned back to Ami and smiled, “I think it’s a great color. Just right and definitely not toothpaste-y.” She looked down at her watch, she saw it was nearing 10 AM or so, giving her more than enough time before she had to be at Lumiere for dinner service. “Let’s get started!”

Ami smiled, "Wonderful! Are you going to be ok waiting an hour for relief?" The fact that they had come on suddenly had Ami slightly worried. If the medicine worked, she'd stop worrying, but otherwise, Ami would be ordering a CT scan for her.
She laughed, "There are enough eager doctors and nurses here that it should not be too much of a problem."
Ami grinned pouring paint into a paint pan and then running a roller through it. It was not much of an expression of creativity - something she tended to keep to herself and the girls anyway, but it felt good to paint. "I'm glad you like it. Blue seems to be a stereotypical color for hospitals, and there's all those jokes about toothpaste blue... " She smirked a bit, not entirely sure why she felt the need to justify it.

“As long as a certain someone doesn’t show up here, I’ll be fine.” She gave a sideways smile to Ami. “But let’s not worry about that. I’m ready to get rollin’!” She grabbed a roller and shared the paint pan with Ami and started working on the wall.
It wasn’t long before she’d finished one section and was pouring more paint into the pan to start the next. “Ami, I have to thank you. This is actually very relaxing.” Makoto chuckled, “Can I paint the rest of this wing?”

Ami chuckled, enjoying the quiet companionship and the break from the more explicitly administrative duties of getting the medical wing prepared. "I'm glad you're enjoying it." She smiled over to her only the slightest bit of blue paint on her face and clothes, fortunately she'd come in clothes that could get dirty was not wearing her lab coat.
"You are welcome to paint as much as you would like, Mako-chan. And I'd love to have you here. After all, being around all of you more is part of the reason I'm finishing my residency here."

Makoto smiled back at her friend. “And I’m so glad you decided to do that. We all are Ami. It’s about time we were all home together again.”
She continued painting in silence. An occasional uncomfortable thought would creep into her mind here and there, but she was able to brush them away with each pass of the roller along the wall. It seemed like only minutes had passed, but apparently it was much longer than that. Her stomach growled. She looked down at her watched and realized it was after noon. “Have we really been painting this long?” She frowned. “I’m really sorry Ami-chan but I think I’m going to have to call it a day. I need to grab that prescription and then shower up. I’m doing the dinner service at Lumiere tonight, so I’ve gotta be there soon.”
She placed the roller back into the pan and gave her friend a quick hug. “Thank you again, Ami-chan. I really appreciate it. You’ve helped me more than you know.”
