Nathaniel could feel the woman in his arms reacting to him and something in his mind kept urging him to push the envelope. That he just knew she would give in if he pushed just a little bit more.
He probably would have done just that too, if Makoto's last comment hadn't caught his attention so thoroughly. ...try her again. "Try who again?" The only person he'd gone to see was that snotty priestess, and that was right! The priestess was one of the queen's guards as well as the woman he held in his arms. That notion made him want to laugh for some reason, but it would explain her strength and the dead aim of her punch.
Looking down into Makoto's green eyes caused another stab of pain to lance through his head, even as one hand moved of its own volition to trail down her cheek, a flirtatious half-smile barely visible in the shadows. "Your company is a damn sight better than that Martian harridan's."
Nathaniel knew that the woman he held was right, that he probably should go and talk to the priestess again, but dammit all if he wasn't very reluctant to even move at the moment. Something was looming so close at the moment he could nearly taste it, and this green eyed beauty had brought it with her.

Before Makoto could reply to his inquiry, it seemed he’d answered his own question. She slightly shivered as he touched her face. His hand was so warm, yet it left a line of tingles as he traced it across her cheek. Moving his arm, however, had loosened his grip on her and she took the opportunity to turn around and face him, her hands still at her sides.
“I’m sorry if your first impression of her wasn’t the best. But really, she will be much more help than I will.” Despite the pain, she looked dead in his eyes and continued, “I would help you if I could, really. I just don’t think I have the answers you’re looking for.”
She was really late by this point and she needed to leave. But something inside her head screamed at her, begging her to stay here, longing for him to touch her again. ‘No Mako, remember what Rei said… remember…’ She blinked and tried to mentally shake these odd feelings, but no matter how she tried to push the feelings down there was something welling up inside her. She had to get out of that alley before she did something she was going to regret. “I really need to go. Please, see the priestess again. I do think she’s your best bet for help.”

Yet another wave of deja vu crashed over him. This scene, these words, had played out countless times between them. Something in Nathaniel's mind, something in his soul, just knew this as plainly as he knew it was another cold December night in Tokyo, Japan.
He'd grown so used to these headaches that it wasn't that they ceased to pain him, but they could be used more as dowsing and guidance tools. Green eyed Makoto made his head throb and his blood pulse and something sitting in the dark corners of his mind unfold. There wasn't enough light to see what it was yet, but something was moving, shifting, and breaking up.
"You can't go yet," and before he even realized what he was doing, Nathaniel leaned forward and kissed the woman full on the mouth.

Her eyes never left his. The alley was dark, but she could still see the small flicker of light gleaming in his deep blue eyes. A nagging familiarity began to tug in the back of her mind. She’d seen these eyes in a similar light before, but where?
As much as it pained her to do so, even if she didn’t know why, she began to pull away from his grasp. She did not get far before she felt his warm soft lips upon her own. Her eyes opened wide with shock, her hands moved to his chest to push him away. Not here, not now. She couldn’t do this again. ‘Again? What the hell? I’ve never…’ Losing herself in her own thoughts, she hadn’t realized that her eyes had closed and her hands had moved from his chest to his neck as she pulled him closer to deepen the kiss.
A minute or two passed as she kissed this man, whose name she still did not know, a fact that didn’t seem to bother her at the moment. Still lost in his passionate kiss, a familiar passion she hadn’t felt for thousands of years, a small patch of fog began to clear from depths of her memory. Her eyes flew open and she pulled away from him. “I can’t do this Nephy, not here…” The sound of the name upon her lips, and the familiarity with which she spoke it caused her to become incredibly embarrassed. “Oh my god… I am so sorry. I didn’t mean that. You’re not… He’s…” She stepped back from him and frowned, covering her face with her hands to avoid eye contact with him. “He’s someone I used to know.”

The response he got to the kiss was more than encouraging and he happily slid his arms around Makoto's slim waist to pull her closer. She tasted as delicious as she always had. Always had?
The thought was derailed as quickly as it came. The kiss was broken and she was pushing him away, calling him a strange name and hiding her face behind her hands.
"Nephy? Is that your boyfriend's petname or something?" The words were half growled out and thick with jealousy. How the hell could he be jealous already? This was the first time he'd been able to speak with her, he had just learned her name, but none of that mattered at all. After a kiss like that, there was no way that he was going to be second to anyone in her attentions.
"Used to know? Makoto, look at me." Far more gently than his mood should dictate, he reached out and attempted to pull the woman's hands from her face. "If you used to know him, then he's not going to be any problem, is he? Look at me..."
Another of those strange chill slid down his spine, but all he could care about was getting Makoto to look at him again. She shouldn't be this embarrassed about kissing him. It wasn't like it was their first time, or anything. What the hell is this woman doing to my head?!

‘Oh gods, what have I done??’ She could hear the anger in his voice as he questioned her. It was all she could do to hold back her tears…she had no idea what had just happened. One second she was in the strong arms of a rather handsome man, and then the next… ‘And just who the fuck is Nephy?? Where in the hell did that name come from?’ There was a battle within her mind, and she needed to get away to clear all this out.
Makoto felt his hands upon hers as he asked her to look at him again. She let her hands fall into his as she succumbed to his request. It took her a moment to fully look up at him, though. She was ashamed, embarrassed, and on the verge of tears. Finally managing to put on a straight face, she looked back up at him. “I’m so sorry, I really don’t know what happened. He’s just…” She wracked her brain for any explanation, and finding nothing but more fog. There was only one thing that stood out. “He’s just an old sempai. I don’t even know him anymore.” She winced as yet another sharp pain flashed through her head. “Please, forgive me. I really didn’t mean…” She looked down and away from him again.
She started to pull her hands from his. “I really should go. I’m sorry…”

Something had just changed and left him feeling like a bucket of cold water had just been dumped down the back of his neck. Makoto was unreasonably distress about something, and Nathaniel had no clue what. Was it the fact that she had kissed him so suddenly? These Japanese people could be incredibly prudish at times, but he didn't think that was quite it.
He wasn't going to torture the woman by asking her to stay again, even if he didn't want to let her go. One strong arm went up, palm pressing into the wall behind them to block off any potential escape. Taking hold of Makoto's chin with his other hand, Nathaniel tipped her head back so that he could look at her one more time. The squirming in the back of his head was growing stronger by the minute and it was stretching his nerves taut.
The jealousy he'd felt earlier hadn't died down at all. "Good. I'm glad you don't know him anymore." His lips brushed against hers one more time. He just couldn't help himself. "You have to give me some way to get ahold of you. Then, maybe, I can feel a little better about letting you go."
Maybe he'd just been spending too much time doing romance novel covers because now he was beginning to act like those fools all of those women wrote about. And he was not one of them!

She was forced to look back into his eyes as he lifted her chin. She closed her eyes as he leaned in to kiss her again and prayed he wouldn’t pull away. Sadly, that was not the case. She sighed as his lips only lightly brushed against hers this time.
Makoto blinked at his request. He actually wanted to see her again after the horrible embarrassment she just caused? She managed to speak, though her voice cracked at first. “I uh… Um, sure.” She reached into the front pocket of her toque and produced a business card. Digging through her purse once again, she was able to find an ink pen rather quickly and scribbled her private e-mail address on the back of the card. She lightly blushed as she handed him the card.

He took the card, flipping it over to read what she'd scribbled on the the back. Two years in this blasted country had greatly improved his Japanese, even if he did still struggle with the kanji from time to time.
Dark blue eyes flicked back up to look at bright green again, and he dropped his arm down from the wall. He leaned his tall body back from Makoto so that she could make good on her escape.
The card made it's way into his pants pocket without him sparing another glance for it. "You really should get going Makoto, or I'm going to make you even later than you are now." His words were full of lusty promise, but he didn't make another move towards her. If he touched her again, neither of them would be walking out of this alley for a good while.

She lightly sighed again when he lowered his arm. Something inside her ached to be kissed again by him, but she was so terrified that she’d wind up saying some other stupid thing that she decided she’d better go before she wound up in more trouble.
Makoto managed a quick half-hearted smile while letting her eyes linger on his for another brief moment before exiting the dark alley. She glanced back to him one last time once she’d reached the street again and then hurriedly made her way to her car.
She unlocked the car from about 5 steps away, opened the door and then flung herself into the driver’s seat. Her thoughts scattered back and forth between what had just happened in the alley and what had happened in a previous life with a man she couldn’t remember. Finding herself completely at a loss, she did the one thing that didn’t require any thought at all. She slumped over the steering wheel and cried.

Nathaniel knew something wasn't right the moment she returned his gaze. It was obvious that she was holding something back, but he had to let her go.
That half-hearted little smile she tossed back at him as she exited the alley nearly broke his heart and he couldnt' for the life of him identify why. Something more than mere kisses had been exchanged here.
Once Makoto was completely out of sight, the tall man nearly collapsed against the wall, the pain in his head thrumming harder than ever before for having been repressed. Sometimes Nathaniel really hated all the training he'd gone through as the consequences were harder to deal with at times like these.
When his vision cleared again, the auburn haired man stumbled out of the alley and in the opposite direction that Makoto had gone. He had a feeling that he was going to be having more dreams tonight.
(and end scene x3)
