After checking on the color splotches on the walls, Ami gave the approval for the construction crew to paint. She was thankful that the basic layout was done, but there was still far too much work to be done for her to be able to help with the painting.
The first step of opening up the hospital was to have it open for the Palace's needs. With all the workers at the palace, it was like a small city, and it bothered Ami that if an injury happened or there was an emergency, they would have to be taken to Tokyo General. Fortunately, those of her staff who lived nearby were able to begin working immediately - having received her e-mail yesterday letting them know that they were going to go ahead of schedule. That gave her a skeleton staff with which to work, and while that meant that there were doctors and nurses and experienced administrators arranging beds and equipment, it also meant that they would have the basic level of functionality soon.
"Dr. Mizuno? The MRI units have arrived."
"Good... um... Dr. Ako is in charge of imaging... Find her and she can direct them to where to set it up."
"I'm right here, Dr. Mizuno. I've got it." The woman smiled to the senshi of water and headed down to meet the men and women who were unloading the components onto a dolly.
Ami smiled. A few more hectic days with capable help and the Hospital would be open at least to the palace. That did not keep the controlled chaos from being stressful.
"Dr. Mizuno?" Ami turned, biting back a "what" and was glad she did when she saw Dr. Omara from the hospital. She bowed slightly to him.
He smiled, "I'm here to help. I've been assigned as your supervisor for the remainder of your residency. But right now it looks like you could use an extra pair of hands more than a supervisor."
Ami smiled, "I could. Do you mind helping set up beds in the ER? That's the first part we're going to open, just to the palace for now."
"Absolutely."
Ami took a moment when he headed down to take a deep breath before the next thing that would need her attention. It was technically no worse than a busy day with patients, but at least that was what she loved.

Makoto did not sleep well the previous night. Her encounter with ol’ blue eyes the evening before did nothing but bring on her most massive headache yet and cause her dreams of the man in uniform to become more vivid and somewhat frightening. Feelings of happiness and love followed by extreme pain and anguish with visions of death and destruction did not make for a peaceful slumber. Therefore she was up at 4 AM, pacing her room, trying to come to a logical conclusion as to what was going on in her brain. The kiss she’d shared with the man in the alley had felt so right yet she knew it was so wrong and she continued to mentally beat herself up over it. Not to mention the name that burst forth onto her lips from the depths of god knows where. She had no idea who “Nephy” was, or why she’d call this man by that name. And she was still incredibly embarrassed that she’d ruined a perfectly good kiss with an incredibly attractive man by saying something so stupid.
She was in the main kitchen by 5 AM. Mako was the kind of person who needed to do something when she was frustrated, whether it be pummeling someone into the ground or cooking. This morning she decided to cook. She knew that Ami was going to be working in the medical wing of the palace this morning. No better time to welcome her home and welcome her co-workers to the palace than now, and no better way to do it than with fresh-baked pastries. She mixed the ingredients together with her hands, combining them thoroughly, molding the dough into small forms before placing them onto a baking sheet and into an oven. Over and over she did this, like a machine with no off button. Her fellow workers knew to keep their distance when she got like this. They gave her the space she needed and in turn she would let them live. It was win-win for them. By the time she’d finished, she was thoroughly covered in flour and jelly and icing. She loaded everything onto a delivery cart before going to the massive sink and washing off her arms and face, scrubbing away what she could with a washcloth. She checked the mirror in her office and sighed when she saw herself. Bags under her eyes, flour still in her hair. She shut her office door and decided to do something she rarely ever found necessary. Makoto put on makeup.
By 9 AM she was satisfied with her appearance and decided she’d best be on her way to the med-wing. She pressed the button for the automatic doors to swing open and rolled the cart through. Workers lined the hallways, painting, edging, moving beds and equipment. She wasn’t sure she’d find Ami in this mass of people. It just seemed she hadn’t traveled far enough down the hallway. She eventually came upon Ami next to what appeared to be a nurses’ station which would make an excellent place to leave the cart piled high with breads and muffins and pastries. It was right in the center intersection of a few hallways and would give everyone the opportunity to pass by and grab a bite.
She smiled her best smile manageable at Ami. “Good morning, Dr. Mizuno. I do hope you’ll forgive this little interruption, but I thought that you and your crew could use a little energy boost.” She flipped the sheet off the top of the cart revealing what some would call a ‘smorgasbord’, but Makoto just called it ‘breakfast’.

Ami blinked hearing a familiar voice calling her 'Dr. Mizuno.' She turned hearing the rest of it and laughed, "Mako-chan! Please, don't call me Dr. Mizuno. Even here where I'm working, to you I'm Ami. Please?" Her smile was warm even if a tiny bit of the stress she was feeling showed.
She blinked again as Makoto uncovered the cart of goodies, "Mako-chan! This is..." Her eyes were wide as she looked at her friend, "incredible. Thank you." She knew with all the people working that it would get gobbled up in no time, but the sheer amount of it amazed the young doctor. "I appreciate this, and I know everyone else will as well."
Ami flagged down her assistant, "Nina, can you take over for a couple of minutes? If there are any emergencies or I'm needed, I'll be in my 'office'." Ami grabbed a couple of particularly tasty looking pastry and then her friend's arm, pulling her towards the office that was currently serving as a storage room and an temporary office for her.
"Makoto, this is greatly appreciated, but you didn't know I was going to be doing this until last night. What time did you get up this morning to cook?" She handed her one of the pastries, "And did you think to take time to eat?" Ami knew her friend, knew that one way she cared for her friends was through cooking, but also knew that cooking was an outlet for her own stress, just as work was for her.

Makoto laughed, “I know Ami-chan. It just seemed so appropriate for the occasion!” And she smiled a genuine smile at Ami’s reaction to what she’d brought. “You and everyone else here are more than welcome.”
She followed Ami as she was pulled into an “office”. She laughed again at Ami’s inquisition. “I got up at the same time all bakers do… Long before anyone else,” and gave her friend a wink. Her smile lessened though, as Ami handed her one of the pastries. She looked down at it and decided she’d best accept it so as not to cause any more concern for her friend. “Actually, I did have a couple bites out of the ‘boo-boos’ that didn’t make it onto the cart. But I guess I am still kinda hungry. Thanks.” She took a bite and chewed, a thoughtful look on her face. “Do you think there’s enough for everyone you have here? I was really worried about that…”

Ami's expression was still one of concern as she moved files from two seats and gestured for Makoto to take a seat. "I'm not sure there could ever be enough for everyone, even with a skeleton crew... once you add in the construction crew and the various equipment moving crews.." She laughed, "However, I think you brought enough for everyone to get a bit, and considering that they'll all get to go home tonight telling their families they had pastries made by the palace chef? It's plenty."
She smiled looking over to her friend. "How are you doing? Are you still struggling with those headaches?" She did not want to seem so concerned that she pushed her away, nor did she want to seem nosy. "I know they've been bothering you. I could write you a prescription for something that is stronger than Tylenol..." Ami did not think that drugs were the answer to everything, but she knew how much these headaches had been bothering Makoto.
Sure, Ami was curious about the stranger, curious why Makoto seemed to get headaches around him, and he had even caused Ami to wonder who he was, but she did not want to press Makoto too much.

Makoto followed Ami’s gesture and sat down. She gave a nervous laugh and said “Ok, I just really wasn’t sure. I knew it was getting later on in the morning and didn’t want to show up with breakfast after noon!”
She slightly grimaced when Ami asked about her headaches. It was all she could do to keep from spilling everything, but she really did feel like this was something she needed to try to sort out on her own. But at this point, she did need some bit of help. “Honestly Ami, after yesterday… I probably could use something a little stronger. It’s just strange because I only used to get the occasional stress headache. But over the past 48 hours I have had the worst headaches of my life. Tylenol helped at first, but now it won’t even scratch the surface.” She frowned. “I was awake at 4 this morning, not that I could really say I was sleeping before that. But I was out of bed by then.” Mako let her head fall into her hands. “I really don’t want to resort to prescription medication, but after last night I’d sell my soul for some relief.”

Ami nodded and got up, shifting some more papers as she looked for her prescription pad. While Ami did not say anything, she hated the mess of the office, even if she understood that straightening what would be a temporary office was, necessarily, a low priority at the moment.
"You couldn't sleep?" Ami frowned deeply at that even as she took a moment to write out the prescription. Unlike most doctors, her script was very clear and easy to read. Satisfied that it was the right medicine - a low dose pain killer that was just strong enough to be prescription strength with minimal side effects and low risk of addiction, she turned her attention back to her friend fully.
"Mako-chan, is this because of that guy you ran into?" The concern had definitely been turned up with the mention of the time frame and Makoto's inability to sleep the night before. She leaned over and gently laid her hand on her knee, "Are you ok?"

Makoto couldn’t help but frown. “Not really, no. I was very restless, and when I did sleep I had tons of dreams…none of which I understand.”
She looked up when she heard the squeak of the chair as Ami leaned forward and touched her. While she was not ready to share all that had happened, she was honest in her reply. “I really, truly, do not know…on both accounts. There is something about him. Something that one part of my mind keeps screaming at me, telling me I should know. The other part of my mind is screaming at me to stay away from him, that he’s dangerous. And because of this…” she looked back down at the floor. “No, Ami. I don’t think I’m ok at all.”

Ami frowned and put the prescription pad down. She'd worry about that later, but for the moment she was much more concerned with her friends emotional pain than she was with any physical pain that she might be experiencing. She moved over to her and gently hugged her sister, her heart breaking for her.
She gently stroked her hair, though there was nothing that she could think of to say to what Makoto had told her. "Mako-chan. I'm so sorry." She just held her friend, her mind racing for anything that could help her.

Mako sat up and gave Ami a small hug in return. “I think I just really need some time to think about all this. It’s just so much hitting me at once…it’s a lot to take in.” She managed a small smile. “I’ll be OK, Ami, really. Just give me time.”
She thought for a moment. “Ami, I do think there is something you can help me with. Give me something to do around here. It’ll keep me safe in the palace, and it’ll keep my mind off of everything else until I can get that prescription filled. What can I do for you?”

Ami nodded and pulled back from Makoto after a moment. "Ok... There's plenty that needs to be done around here. But only if you promise me that if you need to talk you'll grab me ok? I know I'm not Usagi or Minako or Rei and not as good at the girl talk, but I'm here."
She moved back to grab the prescription and handed it to her. "You can use the pharmacy here. I'm pretty sure we have some of that in stock. It's barely prescription strength, but it should do better than Tylenol. It also should not have a lot in the way of side effects."
"And..." Ami smiled, "You know, I wanted to do some painting anyway. I think things calmed down out there, and I'll make sure Nina can page me if there's something that needs my attention. Want to help me paint? I made sure we got fume-free paint, so it shouldn't make your headache worse."

Makoto smiled and nodded. “I promise Ami. If I need anything, I will come straight to you.”
She took the prescription from Ami and looked down at it, then looked back up at Ami. “Thank you so much. I really hope this works.” She folded it and stuck it in her pocket, making a mental note to run it by the pharmacy before she started whatever task Ami would give her.
“I would love to help you paint. Let me run down to the pharmacy really quick and when I return I will be at your service for the rest of the morning.”

Ami smiled, "All right. I'll wait for you by the nurses station. I need to make sure Nina knows where to find me. Thankfully, the staff are all competent, and most of the doctors and nurses want this place ready as quickly as I do."
"Oh, take that on a full stomach. You've just eaten, so you should be ok. Seriously, don't take that without food. The effects are minor, but you really need to eat to take that."

Mako nodded. “If there’s any left, I’ll grab another pastry on my way over to the pharmacy just in case.”
She left Ami at the nurses’ station where she was able to grab another small item off the breakfast cart and then continued down the hallway to the pharmacy and turned in her prescription. They told her it would be ready in an hour or so.
Back at the nurses’ station she waited while Ami finished talking to who she assumed was Nina. She smiled once Ami turned back to her, saluted Ami and laughed “Kino Makoto reporting for duty.”

Ami turned from Nina and chuckled at Makoto's salute, "Did they have it in stock?" There were still some pharmaceuticals that needed to be delivered to the hospital just yet, and Ami knew it was entirely possible that she did not have the exact list of what they did and did not have yet by memory.
"We'll start with the waiting room. I don't know how long I'll actually get to paint before I'm needed to do something else, but it'll be good to get some work done without everything be important and needing my attention right this minute." She grinned, "So far I've not had the problems you and Rei have talked about though."
She lead Makoto over an area where there very few people, but some brushes and paint. The waiting room seats had not yet been set up, so the wall was fairly accessible. "I'd love to get your opinion on the color too. I wanted calming but not too... toothpaste colored."
